How to choose a title for your novel

Your title is important because it is part of the overall impression you’re creating about your book. It sets the tone, hints at the genre of your book, and intrigues the reader.

Identify what kind of feeling or tone you want to convey with the title.

Think about the genre of your novel. Then, write down a list of relatable words that you think describe your novel.

Cross out any words that don't match your genre.

Mix and match words and see if you can come up with an interesting title.

Alternately, if this doesn't seem to be working, write down a short summary of your story.

If your book has a particular message, base your title around this.

Think of a term or phrase that is mentioned in your book.

If you are really stuck, you can use an online title generator. Only use these as a last resort.

Lastly, run any titles past friends and family to get their opinion.
